Pelvic Sonogram
A pelvic ultrasound allows visualization of the female pelvic organs and structures including the uterus, cervix, vagina, fallopian tubes and ovaries and allows the blood flow through the pelvic organs to be evaluated.

Pelvic ultrasound may be performed using one or both of 2 methods:

Transabdominal (through the abdomen).

Transvaginal (through the vagina).
​
The type of ultrasound procedure performed depends on the reason for the ultrasound.

A pelvic ultrasound may be used to diagnose and assist in the treatment of conditions such as:

Pelvic pain

Abnormal periods

Postmenopausal bleeding

Presence and position of an intrauterine contraceptive device (IUD)

Monitoring of ovarian follicle size for infertility evaluation​

Fibroid tumors

Pelvic infections

Ovarian cancer screening








Infertility | Folical Assessment
An Infertility sonogram or Follicle assessment is performed to evaluate changes that may affect successful implantation of a pregnancy, this includes:

Evaluation for the presence of uterine anomalies

Evaluation of the uterine cavity (endometrium)

Assessment of the ovaries to determine the size and growth of a women’s follicles
-
Determining the appropriate timing for natural or intrauterine insemination
-
Monitoring the effect of ovarian stimulation medications
-
Assessing for residual ovarian cysts
-
Monitor endometrial thickness for IVF cycle
